I saw the sunlight splinter
on the back of my hand
at the edge of the sea
and through my fingers
I saw it on the bark of a tree

It split and glittered
and glittered and split
The water shimmered
so brightly mirrored
so whitely slivered
that in fact I spluttered
and fell out of my seat

Maybe there was too much heat.
My hand on my mouth
I swallowed it out
maybe I had too much to eat.

The sunlight shivered
and continued to repeat.
